LOWELL, N.C. — Police are searching for two men who they say stole handguns from a gun shop in Lowell on Sunday, according to WBTV.
Officers responded to an alarm call at Aim and Defend Gun Shop located on the 4300 block of Wilkinson Boulevard at 11:20 p.m.
Surveillance video shows two men enter the gun shop and bust the glass out of the counters with a tire tool.
The owners told WBTV it took the men less than 2 minutes to take the guns.
“They broke the casing and they stole 16 pistols valued at $15-16,000,” co-owner J.C. Hueck told WBTV.
Hueck told WBTV they usually keep everything in the safe, but there were extenuating circumstances on the day of the break-in.
“I was out and my partner had an emergency he had to take care of so he put away all the expensive weapons and pistols,” Hueck told WBTV. “He left out the lower-end [guns]… never expecting somebody to go for lower end stuff and that’s what they took.”
The co-owners just opened the store in January and said this is the first time they’ve had any problems.
“As a responsible gun dealer, my biggest concern is getting these guns off the streets so they’re not in the hands of criminals” co-owner Tim Gable told WBTV.
Gable said he doesn’t think the break-in was a coincidence. He told WBTV the men had to have been staking out nearby the store.
Now the two owners are beefing up security to prevent any more break-ins.
Anyone with information about the burglary or the men is asked to call the Lowell Police Department at (704) 824-8540, or Gaston County Police at (704) 866-3300.
