MEBANE, N.C. - A week after a powerful thunderstorm blew through the community, crews continue cleaning up debris on Thursday.

With two trucks to haul off large debris including downed trees and brush a handful of workers clean up is expected to continue for two more weeks.

Assistant City Manager David Cheeks said crews have worked 10 hours a day since Saturday, hauling off eight to ten loads of debris each day.

"We're probably gonna spend 15 to 20 thousand dollars with this one storm," said Cheeks. "We do plan a little bit for that in the budget but we've had a lot of storms this year."

The storm knocked down 30 trees and damaged 15 structures and 9 vehicles.

Damage estimates are totaled near $300,000.
