MEBANE, N.C. — Mebane is moving forward with plans for a new fire station, according to the Burlington Times-News.

According to the paper, plans are progressing for the construction of a $2 million fire station to begin in January.

The city will likely begin receiving bids this fall.

The fire station, which will be located on Mebane Oaks Road next to Agape Baptist Church, has been discussed since August 2010 when the city purchased the land.

According to the paper, plans indicate the project will cost approximately $800,000 less than the city planned to pay.
