BROOKLYN PARK, Md. — A 7-year-old Maryland boy who chewed a strawberry flavored Pop-Tart into the shape of a gun was suspended from school for two days, according to the BaltimoreSun.com.

Josh Welch, a second-grader at Park Elementary School in Brooklyn Park, Md., said he was trying to form a mountain with his Pop-Tart when it ended up looking like a gun, the report suggests.

An assistant principal said the boy pointed the pastry at another student, though Welch claims he aimed for the ceiling.

The boy’s father said it’s “irrelevant” who his son pointed the food at because the incident was “harmless.”

Josh’s dad, B.J. Welch, said he received a phone call from the school saying Josh had been suspended for two days because of the pastry incident.

A letter went home with students Friday afternoon explaining the incident saying, “A student used food to make an inappropriate gesture.”

“I would almost call it insanity,” said Josh’s dad. “I mean with all the potential issues that could be dealt with at school, real threats, bullies, whatever the real issue is, it’s a pastry.”

Josh said he wishes he could go back to class. He also said he is still hungry because he never got to finish his breakfast.
