SALISBURY, N.C. — Law enforcement in Rowan County arrested a Marine recruiter Saturday on charges that he sexually assaulted two female recruits in his office.

Officials said 24-year-old Marine Sergeant Derek Craig Percival faces numerous charges including one count each of sexual servitude and attempted second degree rape, both felonies.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office and Salisbury police began investigating Thursday, when officials said they received complaints that Percival had sexually assaulted the recruits.

Deputies said the police made contact with United States Marine Corps authorities about the allegations on Friday.

Authorities said the suspect is currently being held under $100,000 secure bond in the Rowan County Detention Center.
