GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A man and woman from Gaston County were charged with stopping traffic on I-85 late Saturday so they could drag race each other, while one of them had a young child in the car.
Authorities charged Jeremy Shane Huffman, 25, of 209 W. Virginia Ave., Bessemer City, with speeding while going more than 15 mph over the speed limit or in excess of 80 mph, participating in a prearranged speed competition, reckless driving and child abuse.
Tricia Marie Walker, 26, of 1025 Gaston Ave., Gastonia, was also charged with speeding and participating in a prearranged speed competition.
A 4-year-old boy was reported to be in Huffman’s vehicle during the drag race.
The Gaston Gazette reported that Huffman and Walker were in two different vehicles traveling down I-85 when they suddenly impeded traffic by going at a slow speed and blocking the interstate.
They then engaged in a drag race down to Exit 20 at New Hope Road, according to a police report.
