Man tried to drown grandmother in toilet, bathtub after she told him to turn his music down, police say

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — An Oregon man is facing attempted murder charges after police say he tried to drown his grandmother in the toilet and bathtub when she asked him to turn his music down.

Officers responded to a report of a woman crying for help at an apartment complex Sunday night, according to KMTR. Upon arrival, they discovered that her 24-year-old grandson, Isiah Vickery, attempted to break her neck when she asked him to turn his music down.

“[Vickery] basically attacked her and tried to strangle her, ” said Springfield Police Department Sgt. David Lewis. “What she described as trying to break her neck.”

When she tried to fight him off, he tried to drown her in the toilet and bathtub.

Police say several neighbors called for help and the man was later arrested after he tried to flee the scene.

Vickery, who was temporarily living with his grandmother, had been arrested in the past on domestic abuse charges.

He’s been booked in jail and faces a slew of charges including attempted murder, assault and strangulation.
