Brenda Johnson Bishop, 70, called 911 around 1 p.m. to report that she shot her husband, 68-year-old George David Bishop III.

Bishop died hours later after being rushed to a nearby hospital.

Brenda's Facebook page shows the couple had been married for 46 years.

Police say it’s the first time they’ve ever been called to the house.

Some neighbors said in the past that they’ve heard loud arguing coming from the couple’s home.

Brenda Bishop retired as a lieutenant from the police department in 1998, where she was a background investigator.

She also studied at North Carolina A&T University.
