HIGH POINT, N.C. -- A 20-year-old man is out of the hospital after a shooting in High Point Tuesday night.
It happened around 6 p.m. in an area off Taylor Avenue near the Southside Recreation Center and Fairview Elementary School.
The Rec Center is home to several community groups including a Boys and Girls Club, Victim's Justice Center and the Fairview Family Resource Center.
Andrea Dalporto is the program manager of family service of the Piedmont's Fairview Family Resource Center.
They provide programs for adults and children and have an especially close relationship with families at Fairview Elementary right next door.
"It's really unfortunate, and we're sad to hear that happened. We want to keep families safe and healthy here," Dalporto said. "We do always have people coming in and out. Very young children as well as all different age groups. It is a congested area. It's somewhere we want to keep safe, and it's very important to just watch out for one another in that way."
She hopes this negative incident in the community don't overshadow the great programming and positive influence the Rec Center has every day.
"I'm hoping that if anybody has any information they'll go ahead and report it. They can anonymously report it even," she added.
The victim told police an unknown number of people in an unknown car shot him.
Police talked to witnesses in the area. A possible suspect car description on the police report listed a Chevy Malibu.
