A New York man recently set a new Guinness World Record by eating nearly two dozen Carolina Reaper peppers in less than 60 seconds, according to WBTV.
The Carolina Reaper, which is currently the “World’s Hottest Chili Pepper” was created by Ed Currie, a Fort Mill businessman.
On April 24, Wayne Algenio, of New York, ate 199 grams of Carolina Reaper peppers in less than a minute. That surpassed the previous record by 50 grams, according to WBTV.
The Carolina Reaper measures 1.6 million heat units on the Scoville Scale, which is used to measure the pungency of peppers. In comparison, a jalapeno pepper measures just 6,000 units.
In other words, the Carolina Reaper really brings the heat.
