MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. — A Virginia man has set a record after he reeled in a 138-pound white marlin off the coast of North Carolina.
Neil Manning of Ashburn, Virginia, reeled in the massive fish while fishing off Hatteras on Nov. 16, according to the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries.
Manning caught the fish using live menhaden on a 30-pound test line with a Cape Fear Rod and Shimano TLD-25 reel, according to officials.
The former state record for white marlin was 118 pounds, 8 ounces and was caught off the coast of Oregon Inlet in 1976.
The world record for white marlin is 181 pounds, 14 ounces and was caught off the coast of Brazil.
