DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A man who was driving a boat in a collision that killed a pregnant woman and child on High Rock Lake was sentenced as part of a plea deal Thursday, according to the Lexington Dispatch.

Michael Greene, 54, was given a suspended sentence of between 16 months and 29 months in prison.

Judge Lynn Gullett of Davidson County Superior Court accepted the plea arrangement on Thursday.

Green was also sentenced to 32 months of probation and will not be allowed to operate a boat in North Carolina during that period. Gullett also ordered 12 months of house arrest for Green.

Greene was driving a speedboat about 40 mph when it collided with a pontoon boat in May 2013.

The collision killed Melissa Chambers Britt, 32, and her 3-year-old son, William Jaiden Britt, both of Oak Ridge.

Britt was pregnant at the time of her death.
