MORGANTON, N.C. — Police were investigating a homicide late Sunday night in Morganton after they said someone ran over a man in the Eagle Motel parking lot just before 11 p.m.
A short time later, authorities took Ria Rufus into custody and charged him with voluntary manslaughter.
WSOC found out from public safety officers that Rufus had taken some people to the store to get groceries. When he returned, a fight broke out between him and the victim, and punches were thrown.
Police say Rufus ran over the victim with his minivan.
