LITTLETON, N.C. — The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office says a 20-year-old man died on July 4 in an accident involving a rope swing at Lake Gaston.

Sheriff Wes Tripp told WTVD-TV that his deputies got the call to Eastern Shores Road around 3 p.m. Officers found Alex Habel, 20, of Midlothian, Virginia, dead.

Sheriff Trip said Habel was apparently using the swing to jump into the water but was found on a rock.

The sheriff’s office and the North Carolina Wildlife Commission continue to investigate.
