Man injured after Burlington hit-and-run

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A Burlington woman is in custody after she ran into another vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot Monday afternoon.

At about 5:54 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of South Main Street and Summit Avenue in reference to a vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, authorities determined that Ralph Phelps was traveling northeast on South Main Street and Monique Michelle King was traveling northwest when she failed to yield the right of way and collided with him.

He was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition.

After the crash, King fled on foot but was located as a brief chase.

She was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, felony hit-and-run, driving while license revoked, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resist, delay and obstruct. She was also served with two counts of felony probation violations and a criminal summons for misdemeanor larceny.

King is in jail on a $225,000 bond.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be obtained.
