MEBANE, N.C. -- A fatal wreck Tuesday night shut down part of I-85 between Hillsborough and Durham, leaving what state troopers estimate to be at least a hundred drivers and passengers stranded for seven hours.

One of those stranded drivers, Thomas "Dinky" Brown, of Mebane, is now being called an "angel" by some. With the help of his brother, he brought pizza and drinks to many of those stranded.

"He was an angel put on that interstate for us," Michelle Deese said.

With the help of Facebook, Deese was able to reconnect with Brown Wednesday.

"I knew I was OK because of you," Deese told Brown. "He offered, if you need anything, I'm here, this is my name, can I get you anything," Deese said. "He really helped us. And watched over us."

Brown shied away from questions, saying he doesn't want any credit.

"I'm just a good old country boy," he said. "Raised that way."

Brown said he called his brother, who was able to bring pizza to the other side of the highway and hand it off to him to pass out.

"I know he was starving himself," Deese said. "But he left the pizza and went to go and offer it to anybody that wanted it. It was just so selfless. If we had more people like him, this world would be a better place."
