LOMA LINDA, Calif. — A man was bathing his dog in his driveway Sunday when a swarm of bees he was keeping illegally in his backyard attacked, CBS Los Angeles reports.

The incident happened around noon in Loma Linda.

The man and dog each were stung more than one hundred times; firefighters called to the scene also were stung by the bees.

The neighborhood was asked to shelter in place.

The man was taken to a hospital and his condition was unknown. Crews gave the dog Benadryl and oxygen.

A family member said they kept the bees to help with the bee shortage in California.
