WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police arrested and charged a man with murder in connection to the death of 2-year-old in August.

Daryl Reed, 24, was charged with first-degree murder and is being held in the Forsyth County Detention Center without bond.

On Aug. 12, police responded to a call about an unresponsive child at 2850 Piedmont Circle. The 2-year-old,  Corey  Plate, was taken to Brenner Children’s Hospital where he later died.

Investigators later found that Corey was left in the care of two adults at that residence, one of which was Daryl Reed. At the time Reed was dating a relative of the 2-year-old.

The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Corey’s death was a homicide.

The investigation into the murder remains active and authorities ask that anyone with information call the Winston-Salem Police Department at (336) 773-7700 or CrimeStoppers at (336) 727-2800.
