CASWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A man faces felony obstruction of justice and accessory to murder charges in connection with a still unsolved 2005 case in Caswell County.

Donnell Tracy Cousins, 43, faces charges in connection with the still unsolved murder of Larry Mebane.

Mebane, 22, of Burlington, was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a car near the intersection of Highway 119 and Huffines Road on July 8, 2005. He was airlifted to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

In October of this year, Caswell County investigators and the SBI determined Cousins was present during Mebane’s murder, deputies said.

Deputies allege Cousins gave false and misleading information to law enforcement during the investigation.

A Caswell County grand jury charged Cousins with one count of accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, seven counts of felony obstruction of justice and seven counts of being a habitual felon.

Cousins was given a $1 million secured bond and is next scheduled to appear in Caswell County Court Jan. 10.

Anyone with information on the murder case or any suspects is asked to call Caswell County Crimestoppers at (336) 694-5199. Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment, and Gov. Bev Perdue’s office is offering a reward of up to $5,000.
