WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police said they charged a man with driving while intoxicated after a head-on collision that left one woman dead.
Police said a Mazda pickup and a Dodge Neon collided in the 300 block of Meadowlark Drive around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Officials said the driver of the Neon, Shelby Lane, was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on Sunday.
Police said the driver of the pickup, Samuel Cox, crossed the center line, causing the wreck. They said he received minor injuries and was charged with DWI.
Winston-Salem police said this was the city’s eighth motor vehicle fatality this year. They said additional charges are pending.
