HIGH POINT, N.C. — A High Point man is mentally recovering after being held at gunpoint and assaulted at the Phil Wylie Greenway on Deep River Road Sunday evening.
Scott Morgan was in the parking lot when a man approached him. Morgan said the suspect was in the car with another man parked nearby.
Morgan said the suspect asked him where to find drugs and then asked for his car keys before pulling out a gun.
“I thought there was a really good chance that I could be injured,” Morgan said.
In order to survive, Morgan ran but he said the man followed him.
“He ran beside me and took me out from my legs and that’s when I fell,” Morgan said.
Morgan told police that the suspect hit him in the back of the head with the gun.
That’s when he got back up and ran away.
“I was able to turn around once I got around here and see they were headed towards five points,” Morgan said.
Morgan got the car’s tag number as the two men drove off.
High Point police said the suspects were last seen in a black four-door sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Cobalt.
For the last 10 years, Morgan has used this greenway as a running spot and never encountered something like this.
He wants people who hear his story to enjoy the greenway but be cautious.
“Travel in groups. Carry some type of protection and to watch out for your surroundings,” Morgan said.
