HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The Christmas season can bring out the best in people.

This evening, a man caught a lot of people's attention when they noticed him painting the once rusty metal cross next to the John Wesley Ministry sign in the dark.

The cross sits on the corner of Bridges and Eastchester drives in High Point.

The man -- who didn't want to be identified --- is in his early 70s and has nothing to do with the property owners.

He bought hundreds of dollars’ worth of paint, a large ladder and started painting.

He told us, with it being Christmas, he thought the cross needed a fresh coat of paint.

"I wanted people to know what Christmas is all about. Jesus Christ died on the cross for us. It's the least we could do to make his cross look a little better."

As to why he was painting at night, he said he's traveling tomorrow and with rain coming, it had to be done tonight to be ready for Christmas.
