BURLINGTON, N.C. — Police say a man was airlifted to a hospital Tuesday night after a wreck in Burlington.

The crash occurred around 8 p.m. at the intersection of North Church Street and Graham Hopedale Road.

Police say a car was making a protected turn from North Church Street onto Graham Hopedale Road when a 2005 Chevrolet van that was headed west on Church Street ran a red light and struck the car. The initial impact caused the car to collide with a 1996 Toyota Camry that was stopped at the light facing south on Graham Hopedale Road.

Barry Cole Jr. of Hillsborough, who was riding in the car that was initially struck, was airlifted to UNC Chapel Hill Hospital with a head injury. His condition as of Wednesday morning was not known.

Shirley Crawford of Burlington, who was driving the car Cole was riding in, was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center to be treated for injuries that were not described.

Derrick Snipes of Hillsborough, who was driving the van, was cited for failing to stop for a red light.
