WAYNESVILLE, N.C. — Waynesville police have arrested and charged a man accused of stabbing a woman more than 15 times with scissors, causing serious injuries.

WLOS-TV reported that 28-year-old Nashon David Willoughby is facing several charges after he allegedly attacked the 38-year-old victim at her home early Thursday morning.

Police said the woman fell asleep with the door open and the suspect entered the house around 1 a.m. He allegedly stabbed her repeatedly with a pair of scissors from her kitchen.

The victim’s teenage daughter was awoken by her screaming and fought the suspect off, according to police.

Police said the suspect and victim had a previous relationship but had not been together for several years.

The woman was taken to Mission Hospital with serious injuries, according to officials.

Waynesville police said Willoughby has a long criminal history and has been arrested for attacking the same woman before.

He was placed in the Haywood County Jail on $250,000 bond and has court planned for June 11.
