SURRY COUNTY, N.C. — Surry County deputies are looking for a man accused of using his grandmother’s property to grow marijuana.

William Brian “Willie” Hawks, 43, allegedly grew marijuana at his grandmother’s home on North Franklin Road in Mount Airy.

Deputies said 17 marijuana plants were found around the home’s yard and garden after officials executed a search warrant.

The suspect allegedly blended the marijuana plants in with other plants to make them less noticeable. Deputies said the grandmother believed her grandson was coming over to help with yard work.

Surry County deputies have obtained warrants charging him with manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a drug dwelling and possessing drug paraphernalia.

The suspect has no fixed address and may be in Virginia, according to deputies.
