WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Winston-Salem police are investigating a reported sexual assault on a juvenile, according to a news release.

The mother of the victim reached out to FOX8 because she wanted to warn other parents in the neighborhood about what happened to her daughter.

In order to avoid identifying the victim, FOX8 is not releasing the name of young girl’s mother.

“My daughter woke me up and said, ‘Mommy, there’s a man in the house with a gun and he raped me,’ and I got up and I went looking for the guy and then I called the police,” she said.

At 5:16 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a residence in the 1600 block of Ashley School Circle in reference to the reported sexual assault.

Officers were told that a suspect had entered the home through a window and committed a sexual assault on a juvenile inside the residence.

The mother says other people need to know what happened. “I'm letting everyone be aware, watch your surroundings and your home and your little girls, please, I don’t want this to happen to anyone,” she said.

The suspect was described as a man who is approximately 25 years old. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black jacket and tan hat.

The mom told FOX8 the suspect told her daughter he would come back and kill her if she told anyone what happened.

The mom also believes the man was following her daughter.

“He was watching her all day because he told her everything she’d done yesterday,” she said.

She also warned the man to never come near her or her family again.

“He’s a sick fool and -- I hope you get caught and I hope you don’t get caught by me or anyone that knows me,” she said.

No other details about the incident have been released.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call Crimestoppers at (336) 727-2800.
