VAN HORN, Texas — The man accused of abducting a 16-year-old girl in Burlington has been taken into custody in Texas, according to Sgt. Jeffrey Kology with Burlington police.

William Geoffrey Thacker, 27, was taken into custody by the Culberson County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday at about 1 p.m. The missing girl, Krystian Ryleigh Stuart, was in his company and is in the safekeeping of the sheriff’s office until arrangements can be made for her return to North Carolina, Kology said.

Thacker led authorities on a high-speed chase after a Texas Highway Patrol trooper ran his North Carolina tag and realized he was wanted.

The chase ended on Interstate 10 at mile marker 140 in Van Horn when Thacker’s vehicle crashed, Kology said.

Stuart was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and will be released to the custody of her family.

There is no bond information at this time, but Kology said Thacker will be extradited back to North Carolina once his charges in Texas are resolved.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Burlington police at (336) 229-3500.
