WENTWORTH, N.C. — Keith Mabe was voted out as chairman of the Rockingham County Board of Commissioners on Monday evening.

The board unanimously voted to remove him as the chairman.

Mark Richardson became the board’s new chairman after a 4-1 vote.

The vote comes following Mabe being charged with driving while impaired in December.

“The board as whole thought it was in the best interest of the county to have a change in leadership considering the charges against Commissioner Mabe,” Commissioner Keith Duncan said. “His case was continued this week until June and we did not want to wait any longer to keep dealing with this issue.”

Mabe blew a 0.19 on a breathalyzer test after crashing his car in December.
