MEBANE, N.C. – Tammy and William Wilkinson of Mebane are the state’s newest millionaires after they won $4 million playing $200 Million Blowout.
Tammy, a waitress, couldn’t believe her good luck when she scratched her ticket.
“I ran back into the store waving my ticket,” Tammy said. “I went to the clerk and asked her, ‘Is this what I think it is?’”
Sure enough, Tammy had a winning ticket and she rushed home to tell her husband William.
“I started screaming and blowing the horn as soon as I got to our road,” Tammy said.
“I couldn’t believe it,” William, a truck driver for 16 years, said. “I had to go inside and get my glasses, just to make sure.”
Reality set in as the couple claimed their prize Friday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. They had the choice of taking a $4 million annuity paid over 20 years or a lump sum of $2,400,000. They chose the lump sum, and after federal and state tax withholdings received $1,662,006. They plan to use the money to pay bills and go on a vacation.
They bought the $20 ticket at the Mebane Food Mart on South 5th Street in Mebane.
$200 Million Blowout launched in October 2014 with four top prizes of $4 million and 16 prizes of $1 million. One top prize and seven prizes of $1 million remain.
