ASHEBORO, N.C. — A business that has been part of the Asheboro shopping community for more than 40 years will close forever on Christmas Eve.

The Asheboro Courier-Tribune reported that Southern Wholesale at 1615 S. Fayetteville St. will close as owner Steve Morgan retires.

The wholesaler opened more than four decades ago and is known for merchandise that includes jewelry, kitchen appliances, hunting supplies and more.

The business’ current building was constructed in 1972 by the current owner’s father, James Rayford Morgan. There is no word on what will go there next.

The paper reported that the business has long been a favorite among local shoppers looking for competitive prices.
