Fire departments across the Piedmont are praying for the speedy recovery of an Eden firefighter who collapsed Monday while responding to a call.

Dink White is being treated at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.

Eden city officials don’t know what caused the collapse, but it happened after White stepped off a fire truck.

Fire departments have been rallying around White on social media.

Some firefighters say the incident highlights just how stressful being a firefighter can be and how important wellness is for doing the job.

“We get our blood tested. We get our cholesterol checked,” said Mark Podlaski, a firefighter with Winston-Salem Fire Department. “The stress of it all really wears on you.”

As of Tuesday afternoon, White was conscious at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
