BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — A 3-year-old in Illinois spent her birthday celebrating something most people don’t really look forward to — garbage day!
According to Mashable, Brooklyn Andracke loves Thursdays because that’s when she gets to wave at her favorite garbage collector, Delvar Dopson.
“It started with waving from the window, then we had to try and be outside to wave,” Brooklyn’s mom wrote on Facebook. “And when we missed the truck driving by the house, I’d drive around the neighborhood to find the garbage truck and wave on our way out the door in the mornings.”
On Brooklyn’s birthday, she wrapped up one of her birthday cupcakes and decided to wait for her “favorite, awesome, smiley garbage man.”
When Dopson turned the corner onto Brooklyn’s street, she ran to the corner.
Brooklyn and her mom waved like usual and then motioned for Dopson to come over. When he pulled over and got out, Brooklyn handed him the special birthday cupcake.
Brooklyn’s mom then explained that he makes every Thursday special for them. Dopson said the feeling was mutual.
“He explained that he looks forward to seeing us every Thursday as well,” Brooklyn’s mom wrote. “He said that he has a meeting every Thursday morning and always tries to get out of there in a hurry so that he can make sure to see us every week.”
Brooklyn was so excited to meet her “favorite, awesome, smiley garbage man” that she was left speechless.
