NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, N.C. — The four men who were indirectly impacted by a lightning strike while surf fishing in North Myrtle Beach Thursday afternoon were from the Piedmont Triad.
The men were identified as 30-year-old Allen West Jr., of Asheboro, 37-year-old Daniel West, of Greensboro, 57-year-old Andrew West, of Randleman, and 31-year-old Bryan West, of Archdale.
A police report says they were sitting under an umbrella when the lightning struck.
None of the men were directly hit by the lightning, but it did knock Allen West unconscious for several minutes.
He was taken to a local hospital and quickly released. The three other men signed waivers and did not receive medical treatment.
An officer later located the umbrella and said it had a circular burn mark about two inches long.
