DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A Lexington man is accused of stealing a vehicle and selling it for scrap.

On Dec. 14, deputies with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office responded to 272 High Bluff Drive in reference to reports of a stolen vehicle.

Upon arrival, Jeremy Glen Scott told deputies that Virgil Kenneth Payne, 40, had stolen his 2002 Ford Expedition and sold it for scrap.

After further investigation, deputies learned that Payne had, in fact, scrapped the vehicle at a local yard.

Payne was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and obtaining property by false pretense.

He was placed in the Davidson County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.

Payne is scheduled to appear in Lexington District Court on Feb. 2 at 9 a.m.
