LEXINGTON, N.C. -- Things have come full circle for Alec Gallazzi.  Until recently he had only seen one Broadway play, but in a couple of weeks the 12-year-old from Lexington will be starring in the show.

"They said congratulations Godspell cast of 2032.  I screamed -- like a girl a little -- and then I started to cry and I never cry so that just shows how excited I was.  It was mind boggling," Alec Gallazzi said.

Alec scored the role by dazzling the director with a song he learned in his most recent role in Oliver Twist at the High Point Community Theatre.

Godspell is a biblical play about the book of Matthew.  Alec will be performing a few songs along with other child actors who will look like younger versions of the Godspell cast.

Alec doesn't know what part he is playing yet.  He knows it is a special encore performance at the end of the Broadway show on May 22, but more than that, it's one of his dreams coming true.

For a 12-year-old, Alec has had a lot of experience.  It started at the age of six, when his mom took him to the Lexington Youth Theatre.

"So we went and auditioned for the best Christmas pageant ever and ever since then I walked off stage one day and said to mom, this is what I want to do for the rest of my life," said Robert Gallazzi.

Alec's dad builds sets for the Lexington Youth Theatre and sits on the board.

"So he finally got the opportunity when I received the casting call in an email, asked him if he wanted to give it a shot for the experience and he said absolutely I want to do that," said Robert Gallazzi, Alec's dad.  "You just want to tell everyone ya know, I'm really proud,"

"It's really exciting for me to be able to have my Broadway debut at the age of 12.  It just blows my mind right now," said Alec Gallazzi.
