MAYODAN, N.C. — Police in Mayodan said they’re investigating after somebody rearranged the letters on a sign near the road to spell out a racial slur.
Police said the sign in front of the Madison-Mayodan Recreation Department at 300 South 2nd Ave. was found to have an offensive phrase on Sunday morning.
Someone rearranged the sign’ letters to spell out a racial slur, and then the word “America,” Mayodan Police Chief Charles Caruso told the Greensboro News & Record.
Police did not specifically say what the slur was. When an officer arrived, someone already pulled the letters off the sign to stop others from seeing it, according to the paper.
Caruso and Town Manager Michael Brandt have discussed the sign. They both want to catch the person who did it. Caruso said he plans to fully investigate the crime.
