CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte leaders said they’re confident the city will have a new mayor on Monday after Patrick Cannon resigned last week while he faces federal corruption charges.

WSOC reported that the city council went into an economic development meeting and said a decision will be made in a matter of days, but remained tight lipped on who it will be.

“Whoever I think is right — and it’s not the time to be talking about it — it’s a time to be reflecting on who, what and where and what’s the best deal for Charlotte,” said Claire Fallon, Charlotte City Council.

Anthony Foxx, U.S. transportation secretary and Cannon’s predecessor, released a statement last week, saying he’s sad and disappointed. He went on to say the city is bigger than any one person and now is the time to pull together and move forward.
