“We investigated today, and we found the report to be true,” Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Superintendent Beverly Emory said in a statement Wednesday afternoon. “This troubles me deeply.”
Assistant principal Bonnie Brown has been suspended with pay pending an investigation into the incident, which occurred Monday. Brown had been in charge of the school while its principal, Susan Frye, is out on leave.
“Our policies prohibit our staff from using corporal punishment, and we have no policies that allow parents to come to school and use corporal punishment,” she said.
Meanwhile, Deborah Grace will be serving as the school’s interim administrator “as we work through these steps,” Emory said.
No action was taken against anyone else at the school.
