RALEIGH, N.C. –A jury found Starbucks not liable in hot coffee spill case.

The Raleigh police officer suing for $750k will not receive any money.

Earlier Monday, the jury told Judge Donald Stephens Friday they were struggling to reach a unanimous decision.

Stephens sent them back to continue working just before 10 a.m. He said if they couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict, both sides could either try the case again or accept a less-than unanimous verdict. Lawyers said they’d accept a majority verdict of at least 10 of the 12.

Lt. Matthew Kohr claimed the coffee chain was negligent because the lip popped off and the cup collapsed. He also claimed the incident caused such severe stress it activated his Crohn’s disease, which required surgery to remove part of his intestine.
