CARY, N.C. — After 20 years and millions of dollars raised, the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic has teed off for the last time, the organization announced Friday.

WTVD-TV reported that thousands of volunteers, sponsors and celebrities contributed their time and resources to help raise money for cancer research since its inception.

“The Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic generated tremendous funding and exposure for The V Foundation. Moving forward, we are strategically developing new platforms that allow us to engage an even more diverse group of supporters and partners,” said Nick Valvano, President Emeritus of The V Foundation.

Over its lifetime, the Classic’s reputation grew into one of national acclaim and raised more than $13.5 million.

Celebrities and athletes such as Michael Jordan, Darius Rucker, Mia Hamm, Charles Barkley, Kevin Costner, Stuart Scott and Arnold Palmer contributed to the program.

The V Foundation will remain active in the Triangle with new events such as Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon and established events like Racquets for Research.
