Update — The victim in the motorcycle accident on Appomattox Road has been identified as Christopher Joe Purdue, 41, of Greensboro.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — One person is dead after an accident involving a motorcycle in Pleasant Garden Friday morning.

Troopers said the driver of the motorcycle died after colliding with a GMC pickup at the intersection of McClellan Road and Appomattox Road at about 6:30 a.m.

The pickup went to turn left onto Appomattox Road and traveled into the path of the motorcycle, according to officials.

The name of the motorcycle driver has not been released.

Tony Ray Allen, 56, of Pleasant Garden, was charged with misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle.

Allen told troopers he saw a single headlight and thought it was a car. When he went to turn he said he felt impact of motorcycle.

Troopers said there was low visibility at the time of the accident.

The road should be open by 9 a.m.
