GARY, Ind. — An Indiana woman is looking for an apology after she was asked to leave a Family Dollar store because of her Muslim face veil.

Sarah Safi, 32, posted a Facebook video that details the exchange between her and the clerk only identified as Jamie, WLS-TV reports.

“I understand, but you have to understand too this is a high-crime area and we get robbed a lot. You need to remove that from your face or remove yourself from the store,” the clerk says in the video.

Safi explained that it’s her religious freedom to wear the hijab, but was told that the police would be called if she didn’t leave.

The 32-year-old Muslim mom says she’d like to sit down and talk with the clerk about her beliefs.
