PORTAGE, Ind. — A pit bull mauled his owner to death on Christmas Day.

According to WGN, 40-year-old Eddie Cahill was at home yesterday with his two 8-year-old dogs, Fay Boy and Keylo.

Cahill’s wife, Bianca Rodriguez, was spend the day with her family. When she returned home around 5 p.m. she found Fat Boy with blood on his mouth and Cahill dead in the living room covered in dog bites.

The dog was brought to a local humane society and, per the family’s request, euthanized. Animal control officers told WGN they had to use a Taser on the animal to get it under control.

The family says they had given the dog bones for Christmas and that this was a freak accident.

Rodriguez emphasized that they had never had problems with the dog in the past. However, in a police report, she told responding officers she had warned Cahill to euthanize the dog because it was violent and unpredictable.

“I don’t want people to think bad of pit bulls,” Rodriguez told WGN. “It was a freak accident. He loved those dogs.”
