GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Whether they are driving to work or going home, it seems like people are always fighting traffic on Greensboro's Battleground Avenue.
Alexis Lewis says, "I live on Battleground. Work is close and there's always traffic this time of day."
Betsy Bullard wishes the traffic headache at Battleground Avenue and New Garden Road would disappear.
"On New Garden Road, the main problem are the lights. They don't reflect what people want to do," Bullard said.
The City of Greensboro has heard your complaints and intersection improvements are coming. Later this year, contractors will begin adding extra turn lanes at the Battleground Avenue, Benjamin Parkway, Cone Boulevard intersection.
Additional turn lanes will so go in at New Garden Road and Battleground Avenue. In 2017, crews will add turn lanes at Westridge Road and Battleground Avenue.
Greensboro Transportation Director Adam Fischer says a landscaped median will also be built at this intersection. The median will force drivers to make safe left hand turns at stop lights.
"That's one of the biggest accident causes. We found the left turns into and out of and onto a busy Battleground Avenue," Fischer said.
While most of the intersection improvement work will be done before and after rush hour, drivers might see a few delays. Bullard says she will take a few construction delays if it will lead to a safer and easier to drive Battleground Avenue.
"I think people will be willing to tough it out if they knew it was going to get better. You have to work and we appreciate the work they do," Bullard said.
State and federal funds will pay for the intersection improvements along Battleground Avenue from Benjamin Parkway/Cone Boulevard to New Garden Road.
