GREENSBORO, N.C. — One person was killed and five taken to the hospital after a wreck Friday morning involving a tractor-trailer and six motorcycles on Interstate 85 southbound in Greensboro.

The motorcyclists have been identified as Jerome D. Howard, 48, of Woodbridge, Va.; Kenneth N. Jefferson, 51, of South Chesterfield, Va.; Caroline Campbell, 47, of North Chesterfield, Va.; Michael A. Robinson Sr., 57, of Woodbridge, Va.; Arnie M. Morris, 37, of Woodbridge, Va. and Gregory D. Harmon, 44, of Bowie, Md.

Morris has died. Jefferson is in critical condition and Howard in stable condition. The rest have been treated for their injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer has been charged with felony hit and run and misdemeanor death. He has been identified as Daniel S. Serna, 34, of Plantation, Fl. He’s in the Guilford County Jail under a $100,000 bond.

Officials said the six motorcycles were parked on the side of the road due to mechanical issues with one of the bikes when a tractor-trailer hit them. The truck then came to a stop further up on I-85.

Troopers said they believe the only reason he stopped about half a mile up the road is because he had a flat tire from the crash.

Troopers believe the tractor-trailer driver fell asleep at the wheel. He and his co-driver were not injured.

The motorcyclist who was standing on the shoulder of the road was killed instantly, according to authorities.

The motorcyclists were on the way from Northern Virginia/Southern Maryland to Atlanta for a motorcycle rally, according to officials.
