UPDATE: Power restored to thousands of Guilford, Rockingham Co. residents

UPDATE: As of 8 a.m. Tuesday power had been restored to more than 4,000 Duke Energy customers in northwestern Guilford and southwestern Rockingham counties, according to Duke Energy officials.

PREVIOUS STORY: Hundreds of Duke Energy customers are still without power Tuesday morning in northwestern Guilford and southwestern Rockingham counties, according to a Duke Energy outage map.

Approximately 2,400 people are without electricity. At one time more than 4,700 customers were without power.

An an accident near the substation between Eversfield and Everson roads off N.C. 150 broke a power pole at about 6:30 p.m. The damaged pole was not a typical wooden pole but a substation pole that controls a significant amount of power.

No injuries were reported in the accident.

A Duke Energy customer was told power should be restored by 8 a.m.
