WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County has launched an Etsy page to sell handmade toys.

The toys were made by volunteers – woodworkers who have used their skills to make items for local Habitat ReStores.

“They are really specialty items and they are popular with several folks, but we couldn’t really find a good avenue to open them up to the public,” said Pamela Anglin, director of resource development at Habitat Forsyth.

Jim Glaunert and Dave Planitzer are two of the volunteers who use leftover wood from Habitat builds to make toys.

“We’ve got a box of plans in there, probably a 1,000 plans of different kinds of toys.” Planitzer said.

Some of the items include a wooden miniature golf set, wooden tractors and trucks, ring toss games and other items.

Both men enjoy making toys that give a feeling of nostalgia.

“This is what the older folks would say, ‘I grew up with those,’” Glaunert said.

All of the money from toy sales will support Habitat Forsyth’s mission of helping low-income families through its housing and educational programs.

Habitat Forsyth says the toys are non-toxic.

The organization needs volunteer woodworkers and painters to help make more toys – no prior experience is necessary.
