HOPE MILLS, N.C. — A North Carolina man accused of posting a Craigslist ad seeking sex with a disabled child was arrested by undercover deputies.

WRAL reported that William Jerry Faulkner Jr., 47, of Hope Mills, was charged with taking indecent liberties with a child.

The suspect was reportedly arrested Friday at a Linden convenience store near a mini-storage facility that he manages.

Deputies said investigators were tipped off to a Craigslist advertisement seeking a single mother with custody of a special-needs child.

Authorities said the poster offered to pay the woman, up to thousands of dollars, in exchange for turning the child over.

Undercover deputies set up the meeting and arrested him. The suspect was expecting to meet a handicapped child in a car with a mother during the arrest, authorities said.

Cumberland County deputies said the suspect is the first to be charged under “Shaniya’s Law,” which makes the unlawful sale, surrender or purchase of a minor a Class F felony.

He was placed in the Cumberland County Jail under a $75,000 bond and has court planned for Monday.
