WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.-- The Winston-Salem Police Department's holiday task force is ready to begin its season earlier than ever, thanks to Hanes Mall and other shopping locations opening at 12 a.m. on Black Friday.

Every year, the Winston-Salem Police Department doubles the number of patrol officers and adds motorcycle units, as well as foot patrols to Hanes Mall, Hanes Mall Boulevard, and Silas Creek Parkway during the holiday shopping season.

Lt. Ed Reese says,"we are going to have manpower out here 24-7 designated just for this area. We notice the increase of crime and increase in calls of service in the area."

In an effort to beef up security during the holidays, Hanes Mall Security adds additional officers, in addition to providing multiple cameras that can zoom into a car's license plate, even if it's parked at the edge of mall property.

The Holiday Task Force will begin patrolling late on Thanksgiving and will be prepared as stores open on Black Friday. The task force will operate through Christmas Eve.

Officers also remind drivers that traffic more than doubles along those busy shopping corridors.

"Again,we are asking for patience from all the shoppers," says Lt. Reese.
