POLK COUNTY, N.C. — A hiker is in critical condition after falling at least 50 feet from Big Bradley Falls in Polk County.
The Polk County Emergency Management director told WLOS that the 20-year-old was flown to Mission Hospital in critical, but stable condition.
Two hikers found the man at the bottom of the falls around 3:15 p.m. Monday.
Blake Johnson, one of the hikers who found the man, said the victim wasn’t responding when they reached him so Johnson’s hiking partner ran to get help.
It took rescuers about seven hours to bring the man to safety.
Authorities are not releasing the victim’s name until his family has been notified.
